PSG Edges Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the net early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the final seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
